Our focus here at EchoWind is to do our best to improve the breed in every way. That means we care deeply about good temperament, health, longevity and breed type. We are off to a great start with our “EZ” – Fircrest EZ Duz It Of EchoWind and are looking forward to our first litter in many years. Our goal is to have everyone be as happy with their German Shepherd Dogs as we are with ours. We are actively involved with the German Shepherd Dog Club of Washington State, the German Shepherd Dog Club of the Pacific Northwest and Gail is a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America. Our dogs live in our home with us and litters are home raised with an emphasis on early socialization. Gail and Jim
Gail got involved with this wonderful breed in the 1970's. After a couple of missteps (dogs with health and temperament problems) she finally found a wonderful bitch to show and breed. Her first litter produced some beautiful puppies (one was awarded Best Opposite Sex Puppy at the Canadian National in 1977). Gail bred very sparingly because when she did it was with the hope of keeping something for her.
Her emphasis has always been on the total dog that would be a good companion whether they were structurally perfect enough to go into the conformation ring or not. In 1983 due to personal reasons she had to step away from the dog shows. Although she did not show or breed any longer she always had a dog and kept tabs on what was going on in the breed.
In 2005 her husband, Jim, who had grown up with a German Shepherd decided he just had to have another one so they started searching and they found a perfect boy for him. Jim got bit by the obedience bug and successfully trained his boy for his CD title, which he passed at the age of 11 months and 1 day and then went on to be a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. Sadly, due to a fire that started while they were away at work all 3 dogs perished from smoke inhalation.
They were fortunate to find two more perfect dogs to join their family and shortly thereafter the conformation bug bit Jim. Since they now shared the same interest in the German Shepherd Dog - EchoWind was born.
